OMG! So Inspiring

Early on in the toddler years of what was known as Facebook, when it was a genuine place for family and friends to interact and socialise and let's not forget the best part - poking each other. 😄

It was the first place I remember coming across 'inspiration porn' and it was kinda cool seeing the things people were doing around the world and a significant aspect of that 'inspiration' came in the form of ableism, also known as - ableism porn.

I was like "wow.. that's so awesome that they can do that" or "if they can do it, why am I complaining?" making it seem like people with disabilities are just overcoming the usual challenges in life that everyone has, so why can't I right?

"OMG! So inspiring." someone said in the comment section, which I promptly liked.

A while back I came across Disabled By Society by Celia Chartres-Aris and Jamie Shields - I highly recommend you check out their work at Disabled By Society.

The name alone made me realise how messed up things are around disability and the way the world views and approaches disability, because it is true, society actively and consciously continues making the world inaccessible to people with disabilities - and in some cases deliberately.

The 'society' in the name is all of us, meaning we should make the world as accessible as possible and this comes through in many ways, for example - always adding ALT Text to visual elements such as images and video or using Pascal Case for your hashtags - #DontBeAnAbleist

And finally: don't create, post, engage or share ableism porn because that in itself is being ableist.
