Toss-'n'-FLOSS: Ep.01
NOTE: Part of Toss-'n'-FLOSS, where I write about my privacy, security, decentralisation and FLOSS journey - and maybe a little more.
I can't quite pin the moment I was like, "woah! This is fucking wild". π
It's been almost 4 years now since I began on my Toss-'n'-FLOSS journey and I guess it's kinda all a blur now.. π
Lemme explain...
I've never really been one for social media, I think the early years of what was known as Facebook, was the only time I really invested in a social platform and once the internet became accessible I realised there was so much more out there than just poking people(I do miss the pokingπ) and my interest in social media began to wane.
I think I had an email address because I believe you needed one for a Facebook account, and it must have been on Yahoo as that was what was popular at the time.
Then came along the 'don't be evil' company with its irresistible email alternative, completely taking over in a matter of years - and did I end up on it? Yes. π
Oh how amazing it felt having an email address with your full name on it, no funny characters or numbers, the proper full thing - "now that's an email address" I told myself(picturing myself with hands on hips), absolutely oblivious to the unwritten contract I made with what would become a behemoth multinational corporation(just in-case you're wondering, this is never a good thing) known as Google LLC.
And yes..
I haven't forgotten that I started this post talking about another behemoth conglomerate now known as Meta Platforms, Inc., which owns Facebook.
Just these two alone, Google and Meta, the harm they do, their business practices, who and what they finance, who and what they support and the things and people they choose to defend or suppress - entities such as these should never be allowed to exist - buuuut that's for another post.π
